The durability against water, hygienic performance, slip resistance, and long-term usability of materials used in pool design play a decisive role in the overall success of a project. In Çeşme, Interior Architect Dilara Gür not only renovated an existing pool but transformed it into a contemporary living space seamlessly integrated with the architecture of the house. Throughout this transformation process, she shares the architectural and technical challenges encountered, the strategic decisions behind material selection, how aesthetics and functionality were carefully balanced, and how user expectations were translated into design solutions.

This pool renovation project in Çeşme goes beyond a conventional technical upgrade, revealing the transformation of an outdated outdoor area into a modern living environment. Dilara Gür emphasizes that issues such as water leakage, safety risks caused by the electrical system, and obsolete infrastructure were addressed through a holistic architectural approach. According to Gür, “the two most critical factors that made renovation inevitable were the pool’s water leakage and the serious safety risks posed by the electrical installation.”

Highlighting that transforming an existing structure requires a far more delicate balance than designing a new project from scratch, Gür explains that the primary objective was not demolition and reconstruction, but rather enhancing the existing structure and unlocking its full potential. “One of the most important opportunities for me in this project was to give the existing structure a more contemporary identity while improving it,” she notes. The integration of a jacuzzi within the pool stands out as a direct outcome of this approach, offering both aesthetic and functional value.

Placing particular emphasis on the decisive role of material selection, Dilara Gür states that Serapool’s Olcay Mix porcelain pool tiles and complementary porcelain solutions formed the backbone of the design. With its varied tones and textures, the Olcay Mix series enriches the reflection and color of the pool water, while porcelain convex elements and linear overflow details enhance both visual fluidity and user safety. Gür summarizes this process by saying, “With Serapool Olcay Mix products, we achieved both visual coherence and functional comfort within the pool.”

Throughout the interview, attention is also drawn to the importance of technical details and complementary products in renovation projects. According to Gür, the true strength and refinement of architectural design often lie in these subtle details. User habits and lifestyle, meanwhile, remain at the core of the design process. As she clearly states, “A user-centered design approach guarantees both the functional success of a project and long-term satisfaction.”
